History of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish
Our Lady of Lourdes traces its roots to 1907, when it began as St. Margaret's Church, a mission of St. Matthew's Parish in Mobile. In May 1940, the U.S. War Department purchased the church property, and Archbishop Thomas J. Toolen turned to the Society of St. Edmund (the Edmundites) to take over the parish and find a new home. The new church — named Our Lady of Lourdes — saw its first Mass on May 25, 1941, and was dedicated on November 2, 1941. Religious education in those early years was provided by the Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity, and the parish school opened on August 19, 1949, when the School Sisters of Notre Dame arrived. The current cruciform church was built in 1962, with its first Mass at Christmas 1962 and dedication on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes in 1963. In 1986 the Edmundite Community returned pastoral control to the Archdiocese of Mobile, and the parish center was added in 1992 through parish fundraising.

The Holy Rosary is prayed in the church on Saturday afternoon before the Vigil Mass and on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings after daily Mass.

Parish Ministries & Organizations
Our Lady of Lourdes has a wide range of active lay ministries and organizations. Religious Education classes are held for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade on Sundays at 9:30 AM from September through May. The parish is home to Knights of Columbus Council #8740 and its Ladies Auxiliary, the Daughters of Mary, the St. Gianna Society (a respect-life committee), the Burse Club (which supports seminarians), and the 1621 Club (a monthly drawing fundraiser). The parish choir rehearses every Wednesday evening and welcomes new members.

The parish choir rehearses every Wednesday at 7:00 PM and is open to all who wish to join. The parish echoes the saying often attributed to St. Augustine: 'The one who sings, prays twice.'

Sacraments & Pastoral Services
The pastor, Fr. Bertrand Kundu, is available for the full range of parish sacraments and pastoral care. Parishioners are invited to request Mass intentions for loved ones on birthdays, wedding anniversaries, for health and healing, or for any special intention; those intentions are prayed during Holy Mass. The parish office can assist with arrangements for baptisms, marriages, funerals, and grave-site services.

Parish Grounds: Grotto & Rosary Garden
The parish grounds feature two devotional outdoor spaces. The Grotto, with statues of Our Lady and St. Bernadette, was dedicated on July 20, 1981. Statuary and ironwork that originally graced the parish school have been moved to the Rosary Garden and the entrance to the parish center, creating a place of prayer and remembrance for parishioners and visitors.

Annual Lawn Party & Fundraising
The parish has long relied on community fundraisers — including bingo nights, an annual Benefit Night, and the annual Lawn Party — to support building projects such as the 1992 parish center. The Lawn Party remains a signature community event for the parish.
