Why belong here

St. Henry offers the rare experience of a small, historic rural Catholic parish with deep roots in central Michigan — worshipping in a church that grew from a 1874 home Mission and a $1,000 frame building to today's parish across three sites. Parishioners benefit from a full sacramental and formation life: weekly Mass, Friday Adoration, Saturday Reconciliation, OCIA (becoming Catholic), religious education, a preschool, Knights of Columbus Council #3029, Bible study, choir, and a free community fellowship meal — all under the steady leadership of Msgr. Koper and a dedicated lay staff.

Welcome and Parish Identity

Our Lady of Hope Parish is the merged Catholic community of St. Cecilia (Clare), St. Henry (Rosebush), and St. Charles (Leaton) in the Diocese of Saginaw. The parish mission, published on the official website, is to "harness beauty, goodness, and truth to draw people into or back to the Catholic Faith." All three churches share one pastor, staff, and faith-formation program, with Masses, Adoration, and Reconciliation distributed across the sites.

History of St. Henry Church (Rosebush)

St. Henry traces its origin to October 15, 1874, when Fr. Richard Sweeney celebrated Mass at the Bogan home and baptized five babies, founding what was then called the Vernon Center Mission. A permanent church was dedicated in 1887 by Bishop Henry Richter to St. Henry the Emperor; it burned completely on February 21, 1922. The present church was begun across the road the next year; the basement served the parish until the main body was finished in 1941. The school (St. Henry Academy) opened as a boarding school in August 1915, and the parish cemetery — still active today — was established in 1894.
