Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish (parish #639 in the Archdiocese of Detroit) is a bilingual Catholic community in southwest Detroit that serves its faithful from two worship sites: St. Stephen/Mary Mother of the Church at 4329 Central Avenue and Our Lady Queen of Angels at 4200 Martin Street. Created through mergers of historically Polish-rooted and Hispanic-serving parishes, it now functions principally as a Spanish-language parish while keeping one English Sunday Mass at the Queen of Angels site. The parish operates today as part of the Southwest Detroit Family of Parishes and offers weekday and weekend Masses in Spanish, Reconciliation in both parishes, Eucharistic Adoration, a livestreamed Mass, and a steady cluster of ministries serving the surrounding neighborhood.

Why belong here
Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish is the natural Catholic home for Spanish-speaking Catholics in southwest Detroit, with the great majority of its Masses celebrated in Spanish at both worship sites. It is also a parish that welcomes English-speaking neighbors — at least one full English Sunday Mass is kept at the Queen of Angels church — and offers the full sacramental rhythm: daily and weekly Mass, Reconciliation twice a week at St. Stephen and once a week at Queen of Angels, Eucharistic Adoration on Wednesdays and on the First and Third Fridays, and a livestreamed Mass for the homebound. Joining means becoming part of a historic, multigenerational southwest Detroit community rooted in Mexican devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe and sustained by a strong team of priests serving the parish within the Southwest Detroit Family of Parishes.

Welcome and Identity
The parish opens its door — both digital and physical — with a clear message: 'You are welcome here. Parish History
The parish exists because three older communities came together. Our Lady Queen of Angels (founded Dec. 8, 1915) and St. Stephen Parish (founded 1917) each grew up to serve southwest Detroit's Polish Catholic population; as that population shifted after World War II, the archdiocese established a Hispanic mission (Mary, Mother of the Church, 1981) and later consolidated Mary, Mother of the Church with St. Stephen (1995). In January 2014 the two surviving parishes — Queen of Angels and St. Stephen/Mary Mother of the Church — were merged and given the name Our Lady of Guadalupe, under which the parish entered the In Solidum Southwest Detroit Family of Parishes in 2021.

Our Two Worship Sites
Parish life is lived in two churches about half a mile apart. St. Stephen / Mary Mother of the Church on Central Avenue is the Spanish-language heart of the parish; Our Lady Queen of Angels on Martin Street is the older, larger Gothic-style church and the only site that offers a Sunday Mass in English.
St. Stephen / Mary Mother of the Church
Located at 4329 Central Avenue (also listed at 4330 Central), this is the low-rise modern church whose cornerstone is dated 1967. It began life as the parish built in 1918 for the original Polish St. Stephen community and was later remade for the Mary, Mother of the Church mission that served the Hispanic population from c. 1981. The two parishes formally merged in 1995. Masses here are in Spanish, except for occasional bilingual celebrations.

Our Lady Queen of Angels
Located at 4200 Martin Street, the large Gothic-style church on Martin was built in 1952 and is the only one of the parish's two sites that keeps an English-language Sunday Mass. It was founded by Conventual Franciscans — the crossed arms of Jesus and St. Anthony in the apse recall those roots — and remains a focus of southwest Detroit's Hispanic Catholic life.

Clergy and Pastoral Leadership
Our Lady of Guadalupe is pastored within the Archdiocese of Detroit's In Solidum team model, meaning a group of priests jointly care for the several parishes of the Southwest Detroit Family of Parishes under a Moderator. Rev. Adalberto Espinoza, who was already pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe at the time of the June 30, 2021 clergy announcements, was appointed a Family-Pastor of the new Southwest Vicariate Family 1 (now the Southwest Detroit Family of Parishes) effective July 1, 2021.

Family of Parishes
Since July 1, 2021, Our Lady of Guadalupe has been part of the Archdiocese of Detroit's family-of-parishes model. It belongs to the Southwest Detroit Family of Parishes, which currently includes Holy Cross (Hungarian), Most Holy Trinity, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Basilica of St. Anne, St. Francis d'Assisi–St. Hedwig, and St. Juan Diego parishes; St. Gabriel and Most Holy Redeemer previously belonged to the same family but moved into a separate SOLT-led family on July 1, 2022.
