History
The mission community at Ramirez dates from around 1920, in the era when the Diocese of Corpus Christi was actively establishing outlying chapels across the South Texas brush country. On November 1, 1926, Bishop Emmanuel B. Ledvina signed a contract with the Franciscan friars of the Saints Francis and James Province (who had fled religious persecution in Mexico) and assigned them a wide swath of small missions — Realitos, Concepcion, La Gloria, Bruni, Oilton, Mirando City, Aguilares, Ramirez, Cejita, Copita, Crestonio, El Cíbolo, La Salada, Mazatlan, Tienditas, Ojuelos and Laurel — out of the Hebbronville parish base. After later diocesan realignments, the care of the Ramirez mission passed from the Franciscans to the parish of St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus in Premont, where it remains today.
