Welcome to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church

Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church is the bilingual Catholic parish of Hobbs, New Mexico, part of the Diocese of Las Cruces and the Carlsbad/Hobbs vicariate. The parish website greets visitors in both English ("Welcome to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church") and Spanish ("Bienvenidos a la Iglesia Católica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe"), reflecting the community's dual English–Spanish identity. Daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, confession, and a full schedule of ministries and devotions are offered to serve Hobbs's Catholic faithful.

Parish History

Founded in November 1981 by Bishop Raymundo J. Peña of El Paso with Father Denis J. Tejada as its founding pastor, Our Lady of Guadalupe began with Mass in a former Methodist Church on Texas Street. Within a year parishioners launched a Family Fair to raise funds; that fair is still held annually. Construction of the multi-purpose Parish Hall began in September 1983 with Lasco Construction and parish volunteers and was finished in January 1984. The current church building was broken ground on April 17, 1994 and dedicated by Bishop Ricardo Ramírez on October 8, 1994. The parish moved from El Paso's jurisdiction to the newly created Diocese of Las Cruces in 1982.

The parish staff combines clergy, office personnel, gift-shop attendants, and service/maintenance workers. Father Jorge Santiago Vargas La Rosa serves as Parish Administrator; the office is run by Office Secretary Leticia Saenz with assistance from Jessica Arias.

Beyond Sunday worship, the parish nourishes prayer life and family formation through several Spanish-language groups, including the prayer group Grupo de Oración, the Guadalupanos devotion group devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the Movimiento Familiar Cristiano (Christian Family Movement).

Faith Formation: Youth, RCIA, Confirmation

Faith formation happens in the parish hall classrooms. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) and Confirmation classes are offered regularly, and the Youth Group meets in classroom #5 of the hall for ages 14–25. The parish also has a dedicated youth outreach site (guadalupehobbsyouth.yourwebsitespace.com) where teens gather for Bible and Rosary studies, community outreach, and fellowship every Thursday at 6:30 PM.

Parish Calendar & Family Fair

The parish calendar regularly features Eucharistic Adoration, the OLG Family Fair, the bilingual Mass held in the parish hall, youth gatherings, and formation classes. The Family Fair is the parish's signature fundraising tradition, born in 1982 when parishioners organized the first one to fund construction of the Parish Hall — and it continues every year.
