Parish Identity and Patron
The parish is named after Our Lady of Guadalupe, the beloved Marian patroness of Mexico and of Hispanic Catholics throughout the Americas. Her feast day, December 12, is celebrated each year as the parish's patronal solemnity. The devotion reflects the cultural heritage of most families in the Fabens area, who trace their Catholic faith to the Mexican borderlands and the Rio Grande valley.
History of the Parish
Our Lady of Guadalupe traces its roots to the early twentieth century in Fabens, a farming community east of El Paso on the Rio Grande. The Diocese of El Paso dates the parish's founding to 1910, while Catholic parish registers on FamilySearch begin in 1921 when the congregation was formally organized. The parish grew with the agricultural village and continues today as a Mission Valley institution of the Diocese of El Paso. Diocesan personnel records show that in June 2014 Bishop Mark J. Seitz assigned Rev. Celimo Osorio as pastor, and in summer 2025 Rev. José William Arévalo was named Parish Administrator.

The parish is currently administered by Rev. José William Arévalo, named Parish Administrator by Bishop Mark J. Seitz effective July 7, 2025. He is assisted by Deacon Roberto (Robert) Garcia, who serves in permanent diaconal ministry to the parish and its missions. Rev. Celimo Osorio was the previous pastor and had been assigned to the parish in 2014.
