About Our Lady of Guadalupe · Eldorado, Texas

Our Lady of Guadalupe is a Roman Catholic parish serving the small West Texas ranching community of Eldorado, the seat of Schleicher County. The parish is part of the Diocese of San Angelo and serves a bilingual (English/Spanish) Catholic population in a largely rural part of the Concho Valley, south of San Angelo. It is a multi-site pastoral charge that also includes two mission churches: Mission of the Immaculate Conception in Knickerbocker and Mission of St. Peter in Mertzon. Our Lady of Guadalupe celebrates the Eucharist most days of the week in both English and Spanish and offers weekly adoration, confession, and a Monday-evening rosary.

Why belong here

Our Lady of Guadalupe is a small, close-knit bilingual parish at the heart of the Eldorado community, with daily Mass offered Monday through Friday and a Saturday vigil, so Catholic life here can be lived in rhythm with the liturgical week rather than only on Sunday. The parish is also a hub for a wider rural area — its pastor serves the two mission churches of Knickerbocker and Mertzon — and it offers the usual Catholic devotions (adoration twice a week, confession before weekend Masses, and a Monday-evening rosary). For Catholics moving to Schleicher County or the surrounding ranch country, or for Spanish-speaking families in West Texas, it is the natural parish home and the place where the sacraments are regularly available.

About Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish

Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Catholic parish serving Eldorado, Texas — the seat of Schleicher County in the West Texas Concho Valley — and the surrounding ranch country. The parish is part of the Diocese of San Angelo and ministers to a bilingual community. Because Eldorado sits in a largely rural area, the parish is grouped with two outlying mission churches into a single pastoral unit led by one priest. Daily Mass, weekend Mass in both English and Spanish, weekday adoration, and regular confession together make up the rhythm of parish life here.

  • Roman-Latin rite Catholic parish
  • Diocese of San Angelo
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) ministry
  • Pastoral unit includes two mission churches

Parish History and Community

Eldorado was established in 1895 as the county seat of Schleicher County, and the Catholic community grew up alongside the ranching town. Our Lady of Guadalupe became the principal Catholic church of the area and, in time, was given pastoral responsibility for the smaller Catholic congregations of Knickerbocker and Mertzon, whose mission churches remain active parts of the same parish family today. Recent diocesan records show a change of pastor in mid-2023 when Bishop Michael Sis reassigned Father Anthony (Tony) Franco to St. Mary Queen of Peace Parish in Brownwood and appointed Father Mamachan Joseph, CMI, as the new pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe and its two missions, effective July 1, 2023.

  • Eldorado founded 1895 as Schleicher County seat
  • Parish shares pastoral care with Mission of the Immaculate Conception (Knickerbocker) and Mission of St. Peter (Mertzon)
  • Father Anthony Franco served the parish before July 2023
  • Father Mamachan Joseph, CMI appointed pastor effective July 1, 2023

Clergy and Staff

The parish is currently served by Father Mamachan Joseph, CMI, a member of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate who was appointed pastor by Bishop Michael Sis effective July 1, 2023. He is assisted by Deacon Victor Belman, who serves as a parish contact and minister. The same pastor also serves Mission of the Immaculate Conception in Knickerbocker and Mission of St. Peter in Mertzon.
