History
Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish was established on September 17, 1937, during the tenure of the Diocese of El Paso's second bishop, Anthony J. Schuler. From the beginning the parish was given into the care of the Franciscan Order (Friars Minor – OFM), and that Franciscan identity has continued without interruption for more than 85 years. The Diocese of El Paso's official pilgrimage passport identifies the church as one of the heritage sites of the diocese, noting that it was 'built at the foot of the Franklin Mountains overlooking El Paso' and has remained 'under the care of the Franciscans since its founding as a parish.' Today the parish is served by two OFM priests and Deacon Carlos Romo.
