Parish History

The Catholic community in Dewey traces its roots to the Mexican smelter workers who came to the area's zinc works; by 1925, Catholics in Dewey were primarily Mexican smelter families. The mission was being served in the 1960s from neighboring St. James Parish in Bartlesville, with Fr. Pickett living in the Dewey rectory while pastoring both parishes under Bishop Victor Reed. The parish continues today as a mission of the Diocese of Tulsa.
