History of Our Lady of Grace
Our Lady of Grace traces its roots to February 17, 1946, when founding pastor Reverend Louis W. Forrey offered the first Mass for the parish on the stage of the Edina Theater at 50th and France. The fledgling community of 165 families — many of whom transferred in from St. Thomas the Apostle and Christ the King parishes — worshiped in the theater for three years while a 20-acre campus was prepared by the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. The first combined chapel/school/rectory/convent building opened on May 29, 1949, and was staffed by the Sisters of Mercy. OLG graduated its first class of 12 eighth-graders in May 1950, and the parish's 'let's get it done' attitude shaped decades of building campaigns that followed.
