About Our Lady of Fatima Parish
Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church is a bilingual parish of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Newark, located at 8101 Kennedy Boulevard in North Bergen, New Jersey. Established in 1963, the parish has served Hudson County Catholics for more than 60 years. The church building, completed in 1965, is a recognized example of postmodern ecclesiastical architecture whose design responds to the liturgical revisions of the Second Vatican Council. The parish welcomes English- and Spanish-speaking worshippers with a full Sunday schedule and a daily Mass in its Divine Mercy Chapel.
History & Architecture
The parish was founded in 1963, during a period of rapid Catholic growth across the Archdiocese of Newark, and the present church building opened in 1965. Seton Hall University's 'Churches of the Archdiocese of Newark' project describes the building as a fine example of postmodern ecclesiastical architecture, with concrete sidewalls that slope inward in a prayer-like posture, a roof of pre-cast concrete planks topped with white marble chips, and an aluminum fascia. Its main window of faceted glass depicts the vision of Our Lady of Fatima, and the multicolored glass of the Stations of the Cross echoes the facade. In 1989, consultant Richard Markey and architect Gregory Arner oversaw a renovation that added new interior walls and polychromed the statues.

Faith Formation & Religious Education
The parish's Faith Formation (CCD) program serves students from Kindergarten through 8th grade and is held each Sunday in the Parish Center. Children also participate in the parish's 11:00 am Family Liturgy, where parents and guardians are encouraged to join them. High-school-aged teens are invited into the two-year 'Sacraments for Teens' track, which culminates in the sacrament of Confirmation. Registrations begin in June for the new academic year, and classes begin the second week in September.

RCIA — Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
Adults who have not yet received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist, or Confirmation are invited to register for the parish's RCIA program. Classes are available in both English and Spanish and are directed by Tony Santos, the program's parish director. RCIA catechumens and candidates learn what their faith means to them and how to experience it in their daily lives as they prepare to receive these sacraments, typically at the Easter Vigil.

Sacraments
The parish celebrates all the usual parish sacraments and has published detailed policies for Baptism and Marriage.
Baptism
Parents arrange Baptisms through the Parish Office. Baptisms take place on the second Saturday of the month in English and the third Saturday of the month in Spanish, both at 12:00 noon in the church. Pre-baptismal instruction is held in English in the Parish Center on the first Saturday of the month at 11:00 am, and is required before a Baptism can take place. Sponsors must be at least 16 years old (with exceptions by the diocesan bishop or pastor for just cause), confirmed Catholics who have already received First Eucharist and live a life in harmony with the faith, and must be registered, active parishioners of Our Lady of Fatima for at least six months.
