About Our Lady of Fatima · Macy, Nebraska

Our Lady of Fatima is a Roman Catholic mission church in the village of Macy, Nebraska, on the Omaha Reservation. It is a mission of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Walthill and one of four parishes that make up the Holy Apostles Parish Family, served together by the clergy of St. Augustine Indian Mission in neighboring Winnebago. The mission grew out of a community that originally gathered for Mass wherever space allowed — tribal chambers, an office waiting room, a nursing home — until its own worship center was built and dedicated in 2005. Today it serves the Native American Catholic community of the Macy area in close partnership with St. Augustine Indian Mission School.

Why belong here

Our Lady of Fatima is the Catholic mission home of the Macy community on the Omaha Reservation, part of the four-parish Holy Apostles Parish Family served by the priests and deacon of St. Augustine Indian Mission in Winnebago. Worshippers can celebrate the Eucharist alongside the Winnebago and Omaha Native American community that has worshipped here since the days of makeshift Masses in tribal chambers and office waiting rooms, and now gathers in its own 2005 worship center. It is a small, faithful community served by a dedicated pastor, senior associate, associate, and a Native American deacon — a place where the traditions of the Omaha people and the Catholic faith meet.

History of the Mission

For years the Macy community gathered for Mass wherever space could be found — tribal chambers, an office waiting room, a nursing home. Elders organized fundraising and petitioned the Black and Indian Mission Office in Washington, D.C., to help fund a dedicated worship center on land donated by a parish member. In 1998, Father Tom Gall, Associate Director of St. Augustine Indian Mission, took on Our Lady of Fatima alongside his other duties. Father Dave Korth succeeded him in 2003, broke ground in 2004, and oversaw construction of the new worship center, which Archbishop Eldon Curtiss blessed and dedicated on October 30, 2005.

Connection to St. Augustine Indian Mission

Our Lady of Fatima's pastoral care is shared with St. Augustine Indian Mission and School in Winnebago, the only Catholic institution in Nebraska directly founded by a canonized saint — St. Katharine Drexel, who established the Mission in 1909. St. Augustine serves Native American students, 95% of whom are from the Omaha and Winnebago tribes, and the school teaches both Winnebago and Omaha languages alongside the broader curriculum. The 2023 dedication of a new school building and the long-running presence of programs like the Kateri Warrior Drum Group connect the mission parishes of Macy and Walthill to a wider ministry of faith, language, and culture.
