History

Mrs. Helen Ross petitioned Archbishop Byrne to establish a new parish in the mid-1940s. A mission church under St. Charles was established in spring 1948. The first Mass was celebrated July 1, 1949, in a surplus army building known as 'The Barracks,' which was used until 1983. A fundraising campaign led to construction of a school, which opened in fall 1950. The current church building was dedicated May 4, 1958, after groundbreaking in 1957. The parish also built Fatima-Gallagher Hall in 1984, funded by a bequest from the Helen T. Gallagher Estate.
