History of Our Lady of Consolation

Our Lady of Consolation Church was incorporated as a Roman Catholic parish in Rhode Island on September 27, 1895, originally documented in the state's Articles of Incorporation for Catholic Churches (1869–1972). For more than a century the parish served the Catholic families of Pawtucket from its building at 211 Sabin Street. In 2009 Bishop Thomas J. Tobin created Holy Family Parish by unifying Our Lady of Consolation with Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Joseph parishes; the Sabin Street church remained open as one of two worship sites of the merged parish. In December 2025 Bishop Bruce A. Lewandowski approved a further merger into Saint John Paul II Parish, with sacramental records of all three predecessor parishes preserved at Saint John Paul II under Canon 535.

The instrument consists of sixteen tubular bells rung from an electric-keyboard console. The tower was later shortened for safety reasons and received a new cupola and roof; construction work on these features has been documented by bell enthusiasts.
