About Most Holy Redeemer/ Santisimo Redentor · Boston, Massachusetts

Most Holy Redeemer Parish (Iglesia Santísimo Redentor) is a bilingual Roman Catholic parish in East Boston, Massachusetts, serving the neighborhood since 1844. It is the mother church of East Boston, founded by Irish immigrants and designed by the renowned architect Patrick Keely (architect of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Brighton). Today the parish is largely Spanish-speaking, with a vibrant schedule of English and Spanish Masses, an active school, a family homeless shelter on its grounds, and devotions brought by its immigrant communities — including the famous October celebration of El Señor de los Milagros (Lord of Miracles).

Why belong here

Most Holy Redeemer welcomes both English- and Spanish-speaking Catholics — and really, anyone seeking a faith home — into a vibrant bilingual community that has served East Boston since 1844. Worship is at the heart of it: multiple weekend Masses in English and Spanish, daily evening Mass in Spanish, Eucharistic Adoration, the Rosary every day before Mass, the famous October procession of El Señor de los Milagros, and a Holy Hour for Life, Forgiveness and Healing. The parish grounds also house East Boston Central Catholic School (K–8) and a family homeless shelter, so belonging here connects you directly to both the spiritual life and the daily needs of Eastie.

Our Story — Parish History

Most Holy Redeemer was East Boston's first Roman Catholic church, built by Irish immigrants in 1844 and designed by the renowned architect Patrick C. Keely (architect of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Brighton). The community obtained the former Maverick Congregational Church building (1837) on Maverick Street, and by 1856 was known as the Catholic Church of the Most Holy Redeemer. The parish has been an anchor in the East Boston community for more than 175 years.
