History & Chaplaincy
Fr. Jacob Willig arrived in 2021 and, over five years, transformed the Newman Center into a thriving student home. According to The Miami Student, Mass attendance grew to the point where 'every Sunday Mass' was 'out the door,' and a student ministry team, FOCUS missionaries, and spiritual direction program were built up around him. In spring 2026 Fr. Jacob concluded his chaplaincy, and Fr. Chris Komoroski, a priest of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, was named as his successor beginning the following semester. The annual Catholic Redhawk Gala was also launched during this period as a signature fundraiser at the Shriver Center.
