Loyola University Maryland is a Jesuit, Catholic university in North Baltimore founded in 1852 by the Society of Jesus, and is the first institution of higher learning in the United States to bear the name of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Catholic Worship & Liturgy
Campus Ministry gathers the Loyola faith community around the table of God's Word and Sacrament in Alumni Memorial Chapel, the spiritual heart of the Evergreen campus. Daily and Sunday Masses are offered throughout the academic year in Alumni Memorial Chapel and Ignatius House Chapel. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered before the 12:10 PM weekday Mass, and Eucharistic Adoration is offered during the academic year. Seasonal liturgies and special celebrations mark important moments in the life of the university, including Lessons and Carols — Loyola's signature Advent and Christmas celebration in the chapel.

The Alumni Memorial Chapel of Our Lady
The Alumni Memorial Chapel is the spiritual and architectural centerpiece of the Evergreen campus. Designed in the Gothic Revival style by architects Gaudreau & Gaudreau and built by Philadelphia contractor John McShain, it was formally dedicated on September 15, 1952, as both a memorial to Loyola alumni lost in World Wars I and II and a Marian shrine to Our Lady of Evergreen. The cruciform chapel features a long nave with two side aisles, clerestory windows, transepts, vaulted arches, and gargoyles. Its extraordinary stained-glass windows were created by the D'Ascenzo Studios of Philadelphia and depict scenes from the life of Christ, Jesuit saints and blesseds, apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and a central rose window of the Holy Spirit. A statue of Our Lady of Evergreen, Queen of Peace, stands above the front façade.

Retreats — Rest & Reflect
The Campus Ministry Retreat Program invites Loyola students to take time away for prayer, reflection, discernment, community, rest, and good food. Drawing on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, retreats create space to encounter God, explore identity, find community, and live as a person for others. Most retreats cost $75 (introductory rate $35); the actual cost to the university is about $190 per student, with Campus Ministry subsidizing more than $120 per student. Generous donors provide scholarships so cost is never a barrier. Retreats are held at Loyola's retreat center in the Appalachian Mountains.

Service, Justice & Immersions
Campus Ministry connects students with opportunities to serve and work for justice in Baltimore and beyond. Through immersion trips, education, and advocacy, students explore the connections between faith, justice, and social responsibility in the Ignatian tradition. The Center for Community, Service, and Justice (CCSJ) collaborates with Campus Ministry on immersions that include in-depth preparation, community-based learning, reflection and dialogue, and ongoing advocacy. Immersions take place locally, domestically, and internationally during academic breaks (winter, spring, summer).

Interfaith & Ecumenical Life
Campus Ministry supports and enriches faith life at Loyola through a community that celebrates religious diversity and interfaith dialogue. Loyola's Catholic, Jesuit identity calls the university to nurture respect and solidarity, foster shared and diverse values, and invite the community not only to coexist but to 'pro-exist' — to promote one another's being with a message of love. Programs include the Interfaith Retreat, the Student Spirituality Panel, the annual HARPS (Hope and Renewal Prayer Service), the Foods in Our Faiths event, and partnerships with religious minority affinity groups and student organizations.

Faith Formation & Catholic Studies
Campus Ministry offers faith formation for students at every stage of their spiritual journey, grounded in Ignatian spirituality and the Catholic intellectual tradition. The Catholic Studies Program (CSP), part of the Mission and Identity division, fosters engagement with Roman Catholic intellectual life through the Catholic Studies Minor, lectures and panel discussions, film series, cultural immersion programs, and family Masses. Loyola also lives out Catholic Social Teaching — described on campus as 'the best-kept secret in the Roman Catholic Church in the United States!' — across the curriculum and co-curricular life.

Liturgical & Music Ministries
Students serve the worshipping community through Liturgical Ministries and Music Ministries coordinated by the Associate Director for Liturgy and Music. These ministries support Sunday and daily Masses, seasonal celebrations like Lessons and Carols, and the broader liturgical life of Alumni Memorial Chapel and Ignatius House Chapel.

Staff
Campus Ministry is led by a team of lay and Jesuit professionals in Loyola's Mission and Identity division. The Director of Campus Ministry is Emily Kane, a 2014 Loyola alumna who previously served as Associate Director for Social Justice Ministry and holds a Master's in Social Justice from Loyola University Chicago. Milton Javier Bravo, Ph.D., serves as Vice President for Mission and Identity for the university.
