Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church joyfully serves the communities of Morehead and Morehead State University, inviting students and parishioners alike to come together in celebrating the call to follow Jesus Christ. The parish describes itself as a place where people gather for Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, and other opportunities to praise God through worship. On days when Mass is not in session, the Newman Center is open every day for students to hang out, get a snack, watch TV, use the wireless, take a nap, or do homework — and often Father Ronald Sagum is there too.
History
Jesus Our Savior Parish was canonically established in 1961 and is listed by the Diocese of Lexington as serving Morehead in Rowan County. After the Diocese of Lexington was erected in 1988 from portions of the Archdiocese of Louisville and the Diocese of Covington, the parish came under the new diocese's care. Today the parish remains a relatively small faith community of about 225 households, but its scope is broadened by its role as host of the Morehead State University Newman Center.
