Parish History & Franciscan Heritage
Inmaculada's story is inseparable from the history of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Catholicism arrived in Hebbronville with the completion of St. Isidore Chapel on October 17, 1890. The defining moment came on August 4, 1926, when Bishop Emmanuel B. Ledvina welcomed the Franciscan Friars of the Saints Francis and James Province fleeing religious persecution in Mexico. Within months the friars had taken over the parish and begun building the institutions — the seminary, the schools, the lay societies — that still animate parish life today.
- 1890 — first Catholic chapel in Hebbronville, dedicated to St. Isidore, completed October 17
- 1898 — larger chapel begun under Fr. Miguel Puig with help of local laymen
- 1926 — Franciscan friars arrive in Hebbronville under Fr. Bernardino Madueño
- 1927 — patroness changed to Our Lady of Guadalupe (July 9)
- 1931 — Secular Franciscan Order established locally (May 3)
- 1939 — Knights of Columbus established in Hebbronville (April 2)
- 1940–1944 — Scotus College seminary built and completed
- 1952 — Franciscan seminarians return to Mexico; Scotus closes as a seminary
- 1964 — present main church of Our Lady of Guadalupe completed
- 2000 — parish becomes part of the newly created Diocese of Laredo (July 3)

Sacraments
Baptisms are celebrated at the main parish on the fourth Sunday of the month after the 11:00 am Mass; parents and godparents must attend a Baptism Class held the third Sunday of the month at 12:30 pm in the H.S. Chapel. Children must be under six for infant baptism, while older children must first register for CCD classes. Quinceañeras and weddings require at least six months' advance planning through the parish office.
