Why belong here

Immaculate Conception of Marysburg is a warm, intimate rural parish where generations of the same families — and many newcomers — worship together in a 19th-century church still very much alive. Visitors are invited to weekend Mass, daily Mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Eucharistic Adoration offered across the cluster, the sacraments of Baptism, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick, and Communion calls to the homebound, and a parish life shared with three neighboring parishes (Nativity in Cleveland, St. Henry, and St. Mary in Le Center). If you are seeking a small Catholic community rooted in heritage, prayer, and devotion to Mary, Marysburg is a quiet and welcoming place to belong.

Parish History

Marysburg began as a stagecoach stop along the Dubuque Road in the 1850s. German and Irish Catholic settlers built a 20-by-40-foot log church in 1857, named for the Immaculate Conception. A larger church replaced it in 1869–1876. A social hall was added in 1902 and the bell tower in 1995 (relocated from St. Peter after a tornado). Thirty-four priests have served the parish, two parishioners became priests (Fathers Kenneth and Kevin Clinton), and thirteen women entered religious life. The parish history page also preserves Mary M. Maher's poem 'Oh, the old log church of days gone by.'

  • 1855 — Patrick Maher donates land for a cemetery and church
  • 1857 — First log church (20×40 ft) built and consecrated
  • 1869–1876 — Construction of the present church
  • 1902 — Social hall added
  • 1995 — Bell tower installed (from St. Peter after a tornado)
  • Mission history served by priests from Mankato, St. Peter, Cleveland, and itinerant Jesuits

Sacraments

The parish prepares parishioners for the sacraments of initiation, healing, and vocation. Parents are encouraged to contact the parish even before the birth of a child for Baptism; engaged couples should contact Fr. Michael at least six months before their wedding.

  • Marriage — contact Fr. Michael at least 6 months in advance; weekend retreat and classes required
