History of Immaculate Conception Parish

Catholic life in Mabton began early in the 20th century. According to the Diocese of Yakima's official chronological history, St. Mary's at Mabton was built in 1910, marking the first Catholic presence in the community. The current parish, Immaculate Conception, was canonically established in 1964, one of several new parishes created during Bishop Joseph P. Dougherty's tenure (1951–1969) as the Diocese of Yakima expanded to serve the rapidly growing agricultural towns of central Washington.
