Immaculate Conception Parish in Leoville, Kansas, was founded in 1885 and named for the dogma of the Immaculate Conception defined in 1854. The parish began with Masses celebrated in settlers’ homes, and its first church was built in 1885 but completed only after a local resident mortgaged his horses for lumber. The parish rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1922, dedicating a new brick church in 1923. It has a long history of education, with schools dating back to 1890, and has served the community through multiple generations. The current pastor is Fr. Mathew Chacko, and the parish remains active in worship, ministry, and community service.

History
Founded in 1885, the parish was named for the dogma of the Immaculate Conception defined in 1854. Early Masses were held in homes, and the first church (18×20 feet) was built with donated land but completed only after Joseph Dempewolf mortgaged his horses for lumber. A rectory followed in 1886, and the church was enlarged in 1890. A new brick church was dedicated in 1915, destroyed by fire in 1922, and rebuilt with community effort, dedicated in 1923. Schools began in sod buildings, with a permanent school built in 1890, and later a high school (1918) and grade school (1950). The high school closed in 1969, the grade school in 1976. Sisters of St. Joseph taught there for 65 years. Copper domes were restored in 1983.
