About Us
The parish community of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church is a family of Catholics from all walks of life, nurtured and sustained by the Gospel and the Eucharist. We live our baptismal call by reaching out to others with our lives and our talents. Stewardship is our hallmark in every effort to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. To that end, this family is called to strive in each ministry to help one another reach his/her full potential.
History
The idea for a Catholic parish in Goose Creek emerged around 30 years ago when Father Alfred Pepera, chaplain at MENRIV Naval Weapons Station, noticed 40 Catholic families in the area. A group formed to establish a civilian parish, canvassing 160 families. Bishop Ernest L. Unterkoefler supported the effort, and Masses were held at St. Timothy Lutheran Church while the diocese searched for land. In 1979, 10 acres were acquired near Highway 176. A Butler Multi-Purpose Building was dedicated in 1982, and the parish was officially named Immaculate Conception on April 12, 1982. The first resident pastor, Reverend Robert Fix, arrived in 1983. Reverend Donald Grady built the rectory, and Reverend Nicholas Capetola oversaw the six-year campaign and construction of the current church, completed in 1989. The parish now serves over 3,000 families.
Sacraments
The parish offers all seven sacraments, including Baptism, Penance, Marriage, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick, First Holy Communion, and Holy Orders. Sacraments require parish registration and attendance guidelines, with specific programs for children and adults. Confession is available on Saturdays 4:00-4:45 pm, First Friday 5:30-6:15 pm, and by appointment.
Ministries
The parish offers a wide range of ministries including Faith Formation, Youth Ministry (YMP), and various parish staff roles such as Administrative Assistant, Bookkeeper, Bulletin Editor, Music Director, Director of Religious Education, and Maintenance. Deacons include Pelagio 'Jerry' Caoile, Jose Mayen, John Murphy, Joseph Donovan, and Lawrence Roberts.
