About Holy Trinity · Fall River, Massachusetts

Holy Trinity Parish is a Roman Catholic parish in the Maplewood section of Fall River, Massachusetts, located at 951 Stafford Road within the Diocese of Fall River. The parish was formed in 2000 through the merger of three earlier Fall River parishes — St. William's, St. Jean Baptiste, and St. Elizabeth's — reflecting the city-wide wave of parish consolidations driven by declining attendance and a shortage of priests. Today the parish serves its community with weekend and weekday Masses, a Reconciliation schedule, a rosary devotion, faith formation classes, an associated parish school (Holy Trinity School), the Holy Trinity Women's Guild, and ongoing outreach ministries such as its work with the homeless. The parish is pastored by Rev. Robert A. Oliveira, with Gertrude Cadima as Secretary/Office Manager and Brenda Gagnon as School Principal.

How the Parish Was Formed

Holy Trinity Parish was created in 2000, when the Diocese of Fall River consolidated three parishes that had each served distinct ethnic and neighborhood communities in the city. St. William's brought the Stafford Road site and its Maplewood congregation; St. Elizabeth's brought Fall River's historic Portuguese Catholic tradition (it had been a mission of Espirito Santo since 1915); and St. Jean Baptiste rounded out the merger. The older church buildings were eventually demolished — St. Elizabeth's in 2002 and St. William's along with the Monsignor Considine Center in the mid-2010s — leaving Holy Trinity Church on Stafford Road as the home of the merged community.

  • St. William's Parish (predecessor, founded 1905 by Rev. Patrick E. McGee)
  • St. Elizabeth's Parish (predecessor, Portuguese Catholic mission since 1915)
  • St. Jean Baptiste Parish (predecessor)
  • Merger effective 2000 under the Diocese of Fall River
