Worship in the Falcon area descends from the Oblate missionary network headquartered in Roma. The OMI World archives describe how, after Bishop Odin of Texas asked for Spanish-speaking priests, the Oblates began ministering to the Mexican populations up and down the Rio Grande from Brownsville to Laredo. By January 1854, Oblate Father Jean-Marie Gaye had extended this ministry into Starr County, and a permanent Oblate residence was established in Roma in March 1854. Successive Oblate pastors — including the long-serving 'Roma Trio' of Father Clos, Brother Charret, and companions (1867–1907), and Father Eugène Régent (1907–1938) — traveled the ranches by horseback to bring Mass and the sacraments to scattered Catholic families. In 1926 the Oblates built a chapel at Falcón along the river, just across the Zapata County line, to serve that outlying community. That chapel tradition survives today as Holy Trinity Mission.
