Holy Trinity Church
Holy Trinity is one of the four worship sites that make up Holy Family Parish in Clermont County, Ohio. It is the historic parish of Batavia itself, where Catholic worship has been offered continuously since 1906. Today Mass is celebrated at Holy Trinity on Sundays at 11:30 AM.
Church History
Holy Trinity's origins date to 1905, when a group of local Catholics — led by John Hartman — approached Archbishop Moeller of Cincinnati asking for a priest to celebrate Mass in Batavia. After being told no diocesan priest was available for Sunday trips, they turned to Fr. Chrysostom Theobald, Provincial of the Franciscan Order, who agreed to send a Franciscan priest if the Archbishop permitted. Archbishop Moeller granted approval on the condition that the people make all the preparations themselves. They secured the John Klein Building on Main Street with a year of free rent, and on March 11, 1906, Fr. Chrysostom Theobald celebrated the first Mass in Batavia. The Franciscans continued offering Mass there roughly twice a month until the new church was dedicated in 1910. By the 1920s the parish had grown to about 60 families, and over the following decades the parish undertook a series of expansions and renovations: a rectory was created in 1952 from the house next door (purchased for $8,500), the church interior was renovated that same year, and additional work was carried out from the 1960s through the 1990s. In 2006 the parish marked its centennial — 100 years of faith in the Batavia community.

Part of Holy Family Parish
On July 1, 2012, Holy Trinity was brought together with the parishes of St. Ann, St. Louis, and St. Philomena under the name Clermont Catholic Communities. Father Jerry Hiland, who had been pastor of St. Louis and St. Philomena, oversaw the process and became pastor of the new four-parish region. In 2022, under the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's Beacons of Light pastoral planning initiative, the region was reorganized and is now known as Beacons of Light SE-5 or simply Holy Family Parishes. The four parishes share one parish office and staff, located next to St. Louis Church.
