Holy Spirit Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City located in Mustang, Oklahoma, in Canadian County just southwest of Oklahoma City. Founded in 1983 as a church plant by Father Larry B. Gatlin, the parish grew from humble beginnings (a funeral home, then a rented storefront, then a temporary family life center) into one of the larger parishes in the archdiocese, today serving more than 1,000 registered families drawn from Mustang, Tuttle, Minco, south Oklahoma City, Blanchard, and Bridge Creek. In 2020 the congregation moved into a long-awaited $8 million, 18,000-square-foot sanctuary built beside the original 1986 family life center, which continues to serve as the parish hall and houses the church office.

Holy Spirit is a bilingual, growing parish that draws Catholic families from across Canadian County and southwest Oklahoma City — Mustang, Tuttle, Minco, Blanchard, Bridge Creek and beyond — and offers four weekend Masses (including a Spanish Mass), daily Mass, Saturday confessions, weekly adoration with Benediction, all-day adoration once a month, an active youth group representing more than 10 high schools, and ministries such as St. Vincent de Paul charitable assistance, Walking with Mom's in Need, RCIA, and the annual Oktoberfest fundraiser. With a brand-new sanctuary completed in 2020, a thriving Hispanic ministry, and a parish family of more than 1,000 registered households, newcomers are warmly invited to register and get involved.

Parish History
Holy Spirit was founded in 1983 by Father Larry B. Gatlin and grew through a series of temporary homes — a Mustang funeral home, a rented storefront, and finally the family life center built on North Sara Road in 1986 (rectory and parish center dedicated November 1988). Father Jim Greiner helped acquire adjacent land and raise funds for a permanent church, and Father Joseph Jacobi, appointed in January 2014, broke ground on the $8 million sanctuary in May 2018. The new 18,000-square-foot church was completed and dedicated in 2020, more than 30 years after the dream of a permanent sanctuary was first held.

Clergy & Staff
Holy Spirit has been served by four pastors since its founding. Father Joseph Jacobi led the parish from 2014 until his retirement in July 2024, when he was succeeded by Father William (Will) Banowsky. Father Banowsky also serves as Judicial Vicar of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. Cynthia Moss has served as Parish Secretary since 2010.

The parish runs a wide range of ministries serving both English- and Spanish-speaking parishioners, including charitable outreach through St. Vincent de Paul and Walking with Mom's in Need, faith formation for all ages, and a youth group that draws students from more than 10 area high schools.

The New Sanctuary (2020)
Designed by ADG Blatt and built by Timberlake Construction, the 18,000-square-foot sanctuary seats about 842 (with overflow to roughly 1,000 and future capacity for 1,300 once a planned transept is added). It merges traditional liturgical elements with a clean contemporary aesthetic and features extensive use of glass to bring in natural light. The original 1986 family life center next door was repurposed as the parish hall and still houses the church office, where Father Jacobi heard Saturday confessions.
