Holy Spirit Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish in the Diocese of Lubbock, serving southwest Lubbock, Texas from its campus at 9821 Frankford Avenue. The parish lives by the motto "A house of welcome and a place of service to all," and offers weekend and daily Mass, perpetual Eucharistic adoration, OCIA, faith formation for all ages, the Knights of Columbus, and a Prayer Garden and columbarium. Our Mission & History

Holy Spirit was established September 13, 1998 by Bishop Placido Rodriguez on land purchased in 1992 under Bishop Michael Sheehan near Frankford Avenue and 98th Street. The founding pastor, Monsignor Eugene J. Driscoll (a Marist priest), celebrated the first Mass with about 50 families in the Knights of Columbus Council #3008 hall. Volunteers knocked on roughly 9,000 doors in the first year, and the parish grew from 60 to 120 families within its first two years, eventually reaching 800 registered families by 2008.

The parish is currently led by Rev. Wesley Beal (assigned October 1, 2021), with founding pastor Monsignor Eugene J. Driscoll continuing as Pastor Emeritus. Deacons include Michael Kenney, Enrique (Rick) Vasquez, Leo Cottenoir (all retired), Brad Brooks, Michael Irving, and Ed Sears. Becoming Catholic (OCIA)

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) — formerly RCIA — is the parish's adult initiation process. Open to anyone 18 or older, OCIA welcomes unbaptized seekers, baptized Christians entering into full communion, and baptized Catholics who have not yet received Confirmation or First Communion. The 2025–2026 classes meet weekly on Thursdays from 7:00–9:00 pm in McGivney Hall, running September through April following the public-school calendar. Catechumens are typically baptized, confirmed and receive First Communion at the Easter Vigil.

Youth Faith Formation (CCE, EDGE, Life Teen, Confirmation)

Holy Spirit's religious education program serves children from PreK4 through 12th grade. CCE for PreK–6 meets Sunday 9:15–10:15 am or Wednesday 6:00–7:00 pm. EDGE middle-school ministry (7th–8th grade) meets Wednesdays 6:00–7:00 pm. Life Teen high-school ministry (9th–12th grade) meets Wednesdays 7:00–8:30 pm, with Confirmation preparation included for those who did not receive the sacrament in 8th grade. Tuition is $30 for one child or $60 for two or more, with an additional $30 for Confirmation books/materials. Registration for the 2026–2027 year opens August 1, 2026. The annual Vacation Bible School runs June 15–18, 2026 on the theme "The Fruits of the Holy Spirit".

Knights of Columbus & Men's Ministry

Knights of Columbus Council 13447 at Holy Spirit was chartered by the Supreme Council in New Haven on January 29, 2004 after a petition of 64 men; it meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Driscoll Center, Room 222. Current Grand Knight is R. Scott Najar. The 4th Degree St. Peter Chanel Assembly 3098 was founded in 2008 with Dr. Brad Brooks as the first Faithful Navigator; current Faithful Navigator is Patrick Wallace (806-544-9993, [email protected]). The Knights host a monthly pancake breakfast on the second Sunday from 7:00 AM to Noon in McGivney Hall.

Devotions & Special Events

The parish hosts the Our Lady of Fatima First Saturday Devotion on the first Saturday of each month with Mass at 8:00 am, followed by the Rosary. The full five-First-Saturdays practice includes Confession, Holy Communion, five decades of the Rosary, and 15 minutes of meditation on the mysteries in reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Other parish events include the annual Fall Family Picnic/Festival, the 28th Annual Holy Spirit Two-Person Golf Scramble benefitting Holy Spirit Field of Dreams (Lakeridge Golf Course, July 25, 2026), parish Blood Drives, and Year of Faith programs such as "Arise Together in Christ."

Prayer Garden & Columbarium

All are invited to come pray in Holy Spirit's Prayer Garden, located on the parish grounds. The garden also serves as a columbarium, offering a sacred in-parish resting place for the cremated remains of parishioners and their families. Benches are planned to make the garden a welcoming space for reflection and devotion.
