History
Holy Spirit Greek Catholic Church was originally organized in 1903 as Saint Michael’s Greek Catholic Church at 296 Clinton Street. A division in 1936 led to some members joining the Orthodox Church, while others, led by Pastor Michael Staurovsky, remained Greek Catholic. After losing their church property in litigation until 1939, they held services at St. Joseph’s Lithuanian Church. In 1941, they purchased 32 acres, and by 1947, acquired 65 more for a cemetery. Construction of the new church began in 1950 and was completed in 1952, with its first Divine Liturgy celebrated by Father Michael Staurovsky. The church grew, and by 1959, a new rectory was built. The Holy Spirit Center was added in 1974, and interior renovations occurred in 1990. The parish continues to thrive with strong ministries and community involvement.
