History of Holy Rosary Parish
Holy Rosary was established in 1896 to serve the Catholic families — largely Italian and Slovak immigrants — drawn to Johnsonburg by the borough's paper mill and lumber industry. Within thirty years the parish had grown large enough to build its own school. Today the parish continues as a two-church community sharing one pastor and one religious-education program with its mission.

The 1922 Holy Rosary School & Historic District
The parish's 1922 school is a three-story Flemish-bond Late Gothic Revival-style brick building trimmed in limestone and corbeled brickwork, with a symmetrical facade and projecting entry bays at each end. It sits at 505 Market Street and is a contributing building in the Johnsonburg Commercial Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Our Lady of Fatima Shrine (c. 1946)
On the lawn immediately south of the Holy Rosary School stands the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, a life-size painted cast-concrete statue of the Virgin Mary erected in about 1946. A stone set into its base records that it was placed as a memorial to all members of Holy Rosary Parish who served their country in the cause of freedom.
