Holy Rosary Parish is a Roman Catholic parish in Edmonds, Washington, part of the Archdiocese of Seattle, that has served the community for over a century. Today it is a vibrant, family-oriented community of more than 1,300 households led by pastor Father Matthew L. O'Leary and supported by a dedicated staff and lay ministers. The parish campus includes Holy Rosary School (pre-K through 8th grade, founded 1964) and the church at 630 7th Avenue N., with formation for all ages, sacramental preparation, youth ministry, music, outreach and a robust parish life. In 2024 Holy Rosary was paired with neighboring St. Thomas More of Lynnwood in Parish Family 11 under the Archdiocese's Partners in the Gospel pastoral planning process.

Holy Rosary is a family-oriented Catholic community in downtown Edmonds that welcomes everyone and invites all ages to grow as disciples. It offers Sunday and weekday Mass, regular reconciliation, Eucharistic adoration, sacramental preparation (Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, marriage, RCIA/Becoming Catholic), and a full faith-formation program for children, youth and adults. With Holy Rosary School on campus, an active music program, youth groups, small groups, retreats, and outreach ministries, parishioners find many ways to pray, learn, serve and build community together.

History

Holy Rosary was founded in Edmonds in 1905 and has ministered to local Catholic families for more than a century. Its parish school opened in September 1964 with about 120 students in the first three grades and has grown into an accredited Pre-K–8 program of more than 270 students and 1,400+ alumni. The school marked its 60th 'Diamond Jubilee' in September 2024 with an Edmonds Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting and launched the HERO scholarship honoring former pastor Father Kenneth Haydock.

Faith Formation

Faith formation at Holy Rosary serves children, youth, young adults and adults through classroom programs, small groups and retreats. Children encounter the faith through the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd atrium, while sacramental preparation for First Eucharist and Reconciliation is offered alongside ongoing faith formation.

Becoming Catholic (RCIA & Adult Initiation)

Adults inquiring about the Catholic faith or preparing for Baptism, Eucharist and/or Confirmation join the Becoming Catholic program. Adult candidates for Confirmation typically receive the sacrament at the Easter Vigil.

Confirmation Preparation

In the Archdiocese of Seattle, youth Confirmation is celebrated in 7th grade (or equivalent age). Candidates attend the Middle School Youth Group on Monday evenings and complete three Confirmation retreats (two day-retreats and one overnight retreat). High-school teens preparing for any of the Sacraments of Initiation meet on Sundays.

Youth Ministry

Holy Rosary's youth ministry gathers middle-school and high-school students for faith, fellowship, service and fun. The Middle School Youth Group meets Mondays from 5:00 to 6:30 PM on the Holy Rosary campus; the High School Youth Group meets Sundays from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Teens serve their community through donation drives, volunteering at local shelters and ministry at Mass.

Holy Rosary School

Holy Rosary School is the parish's Catholic elementary and middle school, opened in September 1964 in downtown Edmonds. It is accredited and serves more than 270 students from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade, with an extended-care program, STEM, arts and music curricula, a schoolwide Spanish program, and CYO sports. In 2024 the school celebrated its 60th 'Diamond Jubilee' anniversary.
