Parish Identity & History
Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish serves East Vancouver, Washington as a parish of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle. Founded around the year 2000, the parish has had only two pastors in its roughly two-decade history: the founding pastor, Fr. (Joseph P.) Mitchell, and the current pastor, Fr. Thomas J. Nathe, who has served since 2014. In Father Nathe's own writings, he emphasizes the parish's commitment to faithfully teaching all Catholic doctrine, including the Church's sexual morality, and the rare stability of its pastoral leadership. The parish is now one of three communities in Parish Family #46 of the Archdiocese's Partners in the Gospel consolidation process, working alongside St. Thomas Aquinas in Camas and Our Lady Star of the Sea in Stevenson toward eventual canonical merger as Columbia River Catholic.

Faith Formation for Youth (PreK-12)
The parish runs a full PreK-12 faith formation program organized under the umbrella of the Columbia River Catholic Faith Formation family of parishes. Children in PreK through 5th grade attend Sunday Faith Formation classes, with First Communion and Vacation Bible School as featured programs; middle-schoolers (6th-8th) participate in Wednesday-night Fraternus (boys) and Fidelis (girls) small groups, Confirmation preparation, and the summer Middle School Intensive (MSI); high-school students join Fellowship Nights, retreats, Fraternus/Fidelis groups, and service projects. Sacramental preparation for Confirmation and older-child Baptism is handled by Katelyn Greenlee, while Annie Cooper coordinates elementary religious education and First Sacraments.

Adult Ministries
The parish offers a variety of ministries for adult men and women, including the Men of Faith group that meets at 9:15 am on the first Saturday of every month in the Parish Center, Women Growing in Faith monthly gatherings, weekly women's spiritual studies, sisterhood nights and retreats, Bible studies, the Empty Nesters group, pilgrimage groups, and seasonal parish missions. OCIA (the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) is offered for adults seeking to enter the Catholic Church or complete their initiation, with sessions most Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Parish Center. Marriage Preparation is coordinated by Katelyn Greenlee.

Outreach & Charity
Holy Redeemer takes its service to the wider Vancouver community through several ongoing partnerships. Parishioners regularly serve at the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry and clothing bank on Stapleton Road; the parish supports Family Promise of Greater Vancouver with donations and volunteer time during the November-through-March shelter season; parish volunteers serve at the Winter Hospitality Overflow (WHO) overnight shelter for those experiencing homelessness; and the parish (sponsored by the local Knights of Columbus) takes a bus to Olympia each January for the Washington State March for Life. A 2026 Cross Catholic Outreach food-packing event is also on the parish calendar.

Knights of Columbus Council #12899
Holy Redeemer's lay fraternal council, the Knights of Columbus Council #12899, was chartered on January 1, 2001 and has grown to over 160 members. The council is part of the Knights of Columbus Washington State Council and meets on the first Tuesday of each month. The Knights sponsor the parish's annual March for Life pilgrimage to Olympia and run their own council programming supporting parish, community, and member needs.

Music & Liturgy
Music ministry at Holy Redeemer is led by Music Director Angela Sun-Hong Lee, supported by two staff musicians, Janvier Kwizera-Masaba and Chad Poissant. The parish website offers recorded Sunday Masses and recorded homilies on its Mass Resources page so that parishioners who cannot attend in person can still participate in the liturgy and follow the pastor's preaching. Sacraments Preparation
The parish prepares parishioners of all ages for the seven sacraments. Infant baptism is arranged through the parish office; older-child baptism (age 6 and up) goes through Katelyn Greenlee and includes Baptism classes. First Communion is prepared at the elementary level through Annie Cooper's program. Confirmation is prepared for students in 6th through 12th grade. OCIA prepares unbaptized adults and baptized Christians seeking full communion with the Catholic Church for Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation, meeting most Tuesday evenings. Marriage Preparation is coordinated by Katelyn Greenlee. Melissa Abell handles sacramental records and serves as funeral coordinator. Sacramental emergencies (anointing of the sick, last rites) are handled by calling 360-885-7780 and pressing 7 at the menu.

Campus & Facilities
Holy Redeemer's campus in the residential East Vancouver neighborhood is laid out on a color-coded map on the parish website. The main church building (blue on the map) hosts Mass, confession, adoration, and many other services, and is open for private prayer 7:30 am to 4:00 pm weekdays. The Parish Center (purple and orange) is the adjacent building housing the staff offices and serves as an event venue for after-Mass hospitality, Bible study groups, soup suppers, retreats, and parish gatherings. The Good Shepherd Building (blue house) at 16915 NE 11th Street and the Sacred Heart Building (formerly the Annex, green house) at 16809 NE 10th Way are residential houses owned by the parish for ministry events, faith formation, retreats, and youth programming.

Partners in the Gospel & Parish Family #46
In 2024, Holy Redeemer was clustered into Parish Family #46 of the Archdiocese of Seattle's Partners in the Gospel initiative, alongside St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Camas and Our Lady Star of the Sea Mission in Stevenson. Effective July 1, 2024, Father Thomas Nathe was named Pastor and Father John Kurapati Vicar for the family, and the three communities are working toward formal canonical merger as Columbia River Catholic between 2024 and 2027. The Archdiocese-wide process will eventually dissolve all 168 existing parishes and missions and re-establish them as approximately 60 new canonical parishes, in response to declining numbers of priests and lay participation. In the meantime, the parish continues with its existing name, staff, and ministries while running three regional pastoral councils in parallel.
