History of the Parish
Catholic life in Ellicottville dates to 1847, and Holy Name of Mary was formally established as a parish in 1850, making it one of the oldest parishes in the Diocese of Buffalo. The present stone church was built in 1909 after two earlier Catholic churches in the village burned. Its Gothic Revival design was meant to evoke medieval European architecture, with rusticated stonework, a projecting castellated tower, stone buttresses, and pointed glass windows. A Tudor Revival parish house was later added to the south of the church. The parish was incorporated as the Holy Name of Mary Roman Catholic Church Society of Ellicottville, N.Y. on January 29, 1892.

The Church Building
The 1909 church is one of Ellicottville's most visible landmarks. Liturgical Ministries
