History of the Parish Family
Catholic life in Clinton County began in 1852 when a small group of Irish immigrant families asked a priest from Xenia to celebrate Mass in their homes. A traveling priest, Father John O'Donoghue of Morrow, began regular visits on horseback. The parish was formally established in 1866, with the first church dedicated in 1870. The present larger church in Wilmington was begun in 1916. As the Catholic population spread beyond Wilmington, mission Masses and eventually Holy Name Chapel extended that pastoral care into Blanchester.
