Holy Family is a small rural Catholic parish serving the farming community of Summerfield in northeast Kansas, in the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. The parish was founded in 1892, shortly after the founding of the town itself, and the current church building was dedicated in 1921 and refurbished at its centennial. Worshippers gather for Sunday Mass and a weekday Mass in the intimate setting of a 600 Main Street church that reflects the close-knit character of its agricultural surroundings, and every fall the parish hosts a community-wide Turkey Dinner and Fall Bazaar that draws visitors from across the region.

About Holy Family Parish

Holy Family is a small, family-sized Catholic parish serving the rural community of Summerfield in northeast Kansas. Founded in 1892, just after the town itself was established, it has been a continuous Catholic presence in this farming community for more than 130 years. The parish belongs to the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and is currently served from the neighboring Axtell parish.

History

The parish was founded in 1892, shortly after the founding of the town of Summerfield. The present church building on Main Street was dedicated in 1921 and was refurbished in time for the parish's centennial celebration. Today the parish continues a long tradition of gathering the rural faithful of northeast Kansas for worship, the sacraments, and an annual community feast.

Fall Bazaar & Turkey Dinner

Every fall, Holy Family hosts its renowned Fall Bazaar on the first Sunday of October. The event features a pre-Thanksgiving meal of turkey, dressing, and all the trimmings that draws visitors from miles around. It is one of the parish's signature community events and a major fundraiser, attracting both parishioners and visitors from across northeast Kansas.
