Holy Family Parish in Portage, Pennsylvania, is a Roman Catholic community formed by the merger of several historic parishes, including Saint Joseph and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, which officially united in 2015. About Our Parish
Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Family Parish Community is called to serve God and one another in love. We are challenged to hear and live the Gospel message of Jesus Christ by involving our Christian community in worship, education and Christian service. We invite and welcome all people to join us in this journey of faith as we strive to build up the Kingdom of God.
History
Holy Family Parish was formed in 2015 by the official merger of Saint Joseph Parish and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, which itself was created in 1999 by the merger of Sacred Heart, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Saint John the Baptist parishes. Saint John the Baptist was later relegated to profane use in 2004. The church building, formerly Saint Joseph Church, was renamed and rededicated as Holy Family Church on June 19, 2016, following renovations.
Ministries
The parish offers a variety of ministries including Youth Ministry, Hospitality Committee, Prayer Chain Ministry, People Helping People, Knights of Columbus, and Sacred Heart Ushers Club. These groups support parishioners and the wider community through outreach, service, and fellowship.
