Parish History
Holy Family Catholic Church was authorized and built in 1856, dedicated in 1857, and has served Latrobe continuously ever since — one of the borough's earliest institutions. The 1863 storm destroyed the first structure; a rectory followed in 1864 and the Sisters of Mercy began staffing the school in 1868. The parish separated from St. Martin's in 1874, expanded again at the turn of the century, and dedicated its present English Gothic church in 1907. Fireproof classrooms came in 1921. After the Diocese of Greensburg was erected by Pope Pius XII in 1951, the parish continued to grow, and in the 1990s it joined with St. John the Evangelist and St. Vincent Basilica to form the regional Christ the Divine Teacher School. The church's 2017 rededication by Bishop Malesic capped a near-$2 million restoration that preserved the high altar for the Latin Mass.

Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form)
Every Sunday at 3:00 p.m., Holy Family offers the Traditional Latin Mass in complete accordance with Pope Benedict XVI's 2007 motu proprio Summorum Pontificum. The parish began celebrating Mass in the extraordinary form on the First Sunday of Lent, 2013. High Masses are sung on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. Red missalettes with Latin and English prayers are provided at the entrances of the church.

Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation
Holy Family's Faith Formation program serves children from kindergarten through 6th grade, with a curriculum centered on the Mass, the liturgical year, the Gospels, and the love of God. Confirmation preparation is a separate track. Both programs run September through May.

Christ the Divine Teacher School
The parish's Catholic elementary school, Christ the Divine Teacher (CDT), has served the Latrobe area since Abraham Lincoln's presidency. In 1990 it merged with the schools of St. John the Evangelist and St. Vincent Basilica parishes. In the 2016–17 school year CDT adopted a classical education curriculum — making it the only school in the area to offer that model — and today it draws students from 19 parishes and other denominations across Latrobe, Ligonier, Derry, Greensburg, Mount Pleasant, Champion, Blairsville, Acme, Saltsburg, and Pleasant Unity.
