Holy Family Parish is a welcoming Catholic community in Kirkland, Washington, on the east side of Lake Washington in the Archdiocese of Seattle. Founded as a mission in 1913 and established as a parish on November 8, 1915, by Bishop Edward O'Dea, Holy Family has grown from a once-monthly Mass said for about twenty Catholics to a parish of roughly 1,800 families served by a parish school, a thriving Catechesis of the Good Shepherd faith-formation program, perpetual Eucharistic Adoration, and a broad range of outreach and social-justice ministries. The current pastor is Rev. Bradley R. Hagelin, and since July 1, 2024 the parish has been paired with St. John Vianney in Kirkland under the Archdiocese's 'Partners in the Gospel' parish-family model, with the two communities temporarily known as the Parishes of Kirkland.

Holy Family welcomes Catholics and inquirers on the east side of Lake Washington into a parish that has served its community continuously since 1914. Parishioners can worship at four Sunday Masses and a full weekday schedule, sit in a perpetual adoration chapel, walk their children through the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd atrium, send them to Holy Family Parish School, and put faith into practice through ministries like the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the Sack Lunch Program feeding Bakhita Gardens Women's Shelter, the Thanksgiving Community Dinner, Mental Health Ministry, Respect Life, and the Furniture Ministry. Because of its proximity to the Microsoft campus, the parish draws families from all over the world, and the parish family partnership with St. John Vianney means even more priests and resources are now shared across Kirkland.

Parish History
Holy Family's story begins in 1913 as a mission of St. Anthony's in Renton, when Fr. Nicholas O'Rafferty traveled to say one Mass a month for about twenty Catholics in the Kirkland City Council Chambers. After the first baptism on March 8, 1914, parishioners built the first church themselves on 6th Avenue and 3rd Street — without a contractor — and Bishop O'Dea consecrated it in November 1914. The parish was formally established in November 1915 with Fr. Thomas Madigan as its first resident pastor. A long line of pastors served through two world wars, a great rebuild in the late 1950s, and the devastating arson fire of July 9, 1988. The current church was dedicated November 4, 1990, and the parish marked its centennial in 2015 with Archbishop J. Peter Sartain concelebrating alongside then-pastor Fr. Kurt Nagel and former pastors Fr. Jim Dalton and Fr. Gary Morelli.

Faith Formation & Religious Education
Faith formation at Holy Family centers on the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), a Montessori-based atrium program for children aged 3–12 across three levels. CGS Level I (ages 3–6) is offered Tuesdays 4:30–6:30 PM, Wednesdays 9:30–11:30 AM and 3:30–5:30 PM, and Thursdays 4:00–6:00 PM. CGS Level II (ages 6–9) meets Tuesdays 4:30–6:30, Wednesdays 3:30–5:30, and Thursdays 4:00–6:00. CGS Level III (ages 6–12) meets Tuesdays 4:30–6:30 and Wednesdays 3:30–5:30. A Homeschool Faith Formation option, parent-led with parish staff support, uses the Spirit of Truth curriculum from Sophia Institute. Children who have completed two years of formation prepare for First Reconciliation during Lent and First Eucharist in May.

Becoming Catholic (OCIA / RCIA)
Adults, teens, and children discerning Catholic faith are welcomed into a structured Christian Initiation process. Adult OCIA inquiry sessions are held on Wednesday evenings, and the team of sponsors walks inquirers through the stages of the rite, culminating in the Sacraments of Initiation — Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist — typically received at the Easter Vigil. RCIA for Children is for ages 7–12, and a separate Sacramental Preparation track serves teens in grades 7–12 who attend weekly LIFE Nights. Baptized Catholics who have not yet received Eucharist or Confirmation are also invited to complete their initiation.

Outreach & Social Justice Ministries
Outreach at Holy Family takes many forms, all coordinated through the parish's Outreach and Social Justice ministries with help from Pastoral Associate Andrea Liggett. Each Friday, volunteers prepare 90 sack lunches for Bakhita Gardens Women's Shelter; on the first Thursday of every month, the parish prepares and serves a meal at a local shelter; and the Furniture Ministry helps people leaving homelessness with donated furnishings. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul makes home visits in pairs — a Catholic lay ministry following the example of the disciples Jesus sent out two by two.

Holy Family Parish School
Holy Family Parish School has been part of the parish since September 1957, when 220 students in six grades began classes staffed by five Dominican Sisters of the Congregation of St. Thomas Aquinas. Today the school serves students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. The school is an integral part of parish sacramental preparation, since children enrolled at Holy Family School and registered in the parish are eligible for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist formation alongside their CGS or Homeschool Faith Formation peers. Worship, Music & Devotions
Liturgical life at Holy Family centers on daily Mass, four Sunday Masses, the sacrament of Reconciliation in the east narthex, and perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in a dedicated chapel. Music Ministry under Music Director Kerry O'Connor supports parish worship. Lenten devotions include Stations of the Cross every Friday at 7:00 PM, with different parish ministries hosting each week (Evangelization Commission, St. Vincent de Paul, Men's Ministry, Respect Life, Mental Health Ministry). On the first Saturday of each month, the 8:40 AM Mass is followed by Anointing of the Sick.

Parish Family with St. John Vianney (Partners in the Gospel)
In 2024, the Archdiocese of Seattle launched Partners in the Gospel, a strategic pastoral-planning effort that placed its 136 parishes into 60 parish families, each led by one pastor. Since July 1, 2024 Holy Family has been paired with St. John Vianney in Kirkland under Fr. Brad Hagelin as pastor and Fr. Val Park as parochial vicar; together they are temporarily known as the Parishes of Kirkland. Over the next several years the two communities will work toward forming a single new canonical parish while continuing to serve their existing neighborhoods. The church building is open Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM and on weekends from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The parish office is open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, and Friday 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM (closed Tuesdays). HFK Café, supported by parish donations, offers donuts, coffee, and hospitality.
