History of Holy Family Mission

Holy Family Mission, Glendale, became a mission of All Souls parish, Myrtle Creek, on September 3, 1963, according to historical records of the Archdiocese of Portland. This made it part of the network of small rural missions All Souls developed across southern Douglas County in the 1960s. Among those who have served the mission as part of All Souls' pastoral team is Fr. William Ryan, OSA, an Augustinian friar of the Province of St. Augustine. Assigned to southern Oregon in 1969, Fr. Bill served as pastor of All Souls Parish in Myrtle Creek and ministered to Holy Family Mission in Glendale. He was known for founding warming centers for itinerants and for his dedicated service to the homeless — feeding, boarding, and clothing them as a lived expression of the Gospel. Fr. Ryan died in 2018.
