Why belong here

Holy Family offers a genuinely bilingual Catholic home where English- and Spanish-speaking families worship side by side, with daily Mass in alternating languages and three Sunday Masses (English, Spanish, Spanish) plus a Saturday vigil. It carries forward more than 70 years of religious education, sacramental preparation, and social outreach begun by the Oblate Fathers and Sisters of Mercy, and remains anchored by active parish societies such as the Guadalupanas, Knights of Columbus, and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Parish History

Holy Family's story begins in 1946, when Father Anthony Elsing of Sacred Heart Parish established a Mission-Center on MacArthur Street between Nogales and Soledad with the help of the Catholic Extension Society. The Sisters of Mercy of the Blessed Sacrament joined the priests in serving the community until Bishop Garriga asked that the Mission-Center be made a parish. Father Tomas Fernandez celebrated the first parish Mass on July 27, 1952, broke ground on the present church in spring 1954, and saw it dedicated January 27, 1955. In 1958 Father Fernandez opened a parochial school to address Hispanic education inequities, and it grew to 180 students. A succession of Oblate pastors continued to guide Holy Family, which remains a center of religious education, evangelization, faith formation, and social services in Corpus Christi.
