Holy Family Catholic Church is a culturally diverse Catholic parish in Missouri City, Texas, part of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Tracing its roots back to 1913 when a small wooden chapel under the patronage of St. Patrick was built at Fifth and Orchard Streets, the parish has grown over more than a century into a vibrant Eucharistic community serving the surrounding neighborhoods. Today Holy Family celebrates Mass in both English and Spanish, operates an active St. Vincent de Paul food pantry, hosts weekday Eucharistic Adoration, and is described by its pastor as 'one of the most diverse parishes in the Archdiocese.' Parish History
Holy Family's story begins in 1913 with a wooden chapel in Missouri City placed under the patronage of St. Patrick. After a hurricane damaged the chapel in 1915 and it closed in 1928, Catholic worship shifted to a brick church in Stafford (blessed by Bishop Christopher Byrne on April 3, 1949). In 1955 the Basilian Fathers took pastoral care, and on August 25, 1969, Holy Family became an independent parish. New buildings on the original Missouri City site were dedicated in 1974, and the present church — dedicated by Bishop John L. Morkovsky on December 30, 1979, the Feast of the Holy Family — was followed decades later by a 2013 renovation that added Centennial Plaza and a life-sized Holy Family statue.
Mission and Welcome
Holy Family identifies itself as 'One Faith. One Family.' Its mission statement asks parishioners to follow Christ, foster community by welcoming all, and build the Kingdom of God as a Eucharistic community through the gift of time, talent and treasure. The parish's broader vision — 'Empowered by the Holy Spirit and strengthened by Jesus in the Eucharist… we welcome everyone home to the family where they belong' — is lived out in a culturally diverse community with both English and Spanish Masses.

Sacramental Life
Alongside daily and Sunday Mass, the parish celebrates Penance and Reconciliation, prepares children for First Reconciliation during/after second grade (CCE Office 281-499-4612), brings Communion to the homebound and sick, and supports families through the Samaritan funeral ministry.
Ministries and Outreach
Holy Family invites parishioners to answer their call to serve through liturgical roles, faith formation, and outreach ministries. From music at Mass to feeding the hungry through the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, there are many ways to participate.
Society of St. Vincent de Paul
The parish's St. Vincent de Paul Conference operates a Food Pantry open Tuesdays 10:00 am – 1:00 pm and the 4th Saturday of each month 10:00 am – 12:00 pm (closed on Holy Days of Obligation). Financial assistance is by appointment, and clothing/furniture vouchers are available based on need. Eucharistic Ministry to the Homebound
Trained extraordinary ministers bring the Most Precious Body of Christ to parishioners who can no longer leave their homes or who live in retirement/healthcare facilities within parish boundaries. Members serve a few hours weekly after Archdiocesan Safe Environment Training.

Samaritan Ministry
Holy Family's 'Samaritan Ministry' is the parish's funeral ministry, serving as a compassionate link between the funeral home, the family and the parish staff. Volunteers coordinate the funeral Mass, prepare and restore the sanctuary, and assist visiting priests, deacons, family members and liturgical ministers.

Ministry of Instituted Acolytes
Instituted Acolytes assist the deacon and priest in the celebration of the liturgy, including purification of sacred vessels and serving as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion when needed. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, fully initiated, recommended by their pastor, and typically experienced sacristans and liturgical ministers.

Faith Formation
Children are prepared for First Reconciliation during or following the second-grade year through the parish's CCE (Continuing Christian Education) program. Parish Life and Facilities
Major milestones include the 2013 renovation (adding Centennial Plaza with a life-sized Holy Family statue), the 2014 opening of the Religious Education/Conference Center, and the 2017 dedication of an expanded Main Street parking lot.
