Why belong here

Corpus Christi Parish welcomes parishioners into a unified community that still worships in three historic church buildings — Holy Child, St. Barbara, and St. Mary — giving families a choice of Mass times and locations across Bridgeville and Cecil. It offers a robust sacramental life (multiple daily and Sunday Masses, weekly confessions at each site, weekday adoration, and First Saturday adoration), as well as a deeply family-oriented faith-formation program (Whole Family Catechesis and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd), a Vacation Bible School, OCIA (formerly RCIA) for adults, marriage and family ministry, youth ministry, and an active St. Vincent de Paul Conference that provided nearly $53,000 in direct aid to neighbors in need in its most recent fiscal year.

About Corpus Christi Parish

Corpus Christi Parish is a unified Roman Catholic parish of the Diocese of Pittsburgh formed on January 6, 2020, from the merger of Holy Child (Bridgeville), St. Barbara (Bridgeville), and St. Mary (Cecil) parishes. The parish identifies itself as 'a vibrant community comprising of Saint Mary, Holy Child, and St. Barbara parishes,' and operates across all three of its church sites. Bishop David Zubik installed Rev. Dennis P. Yurochko as the parish's first pastor on January 12, 2020.

  • Holy Child Church — 212 Station St., Bridgeville, PA 15017 (parish office)
  • St. Barbara Church — 45 Prestley Rd., Bridgeville, PA 15017
  • St. Mary Church — 10 St. Mary's Lane, Cecil, PA 15321

History

The three founding congregations first came together administratively in late 2018 under Fr. Dennis Yurochko as part of the Diocese of Pittsburgh's 'On Mission for the Church Alive!' strategic plan (begun in 2017). They were formally merged into a single parish — Corpus Christi — on January 6, 2020. The Almanac reported that no church buildings were closed, Mass times and locations remained unchanged, and the priests were consolidated into a rectory at St. Mary while the parish office was placed at Holy Child. The merger was one of 26 Pittsburgh-area parishes that combined into eight new parishes.

  • 2017 — Diocese launches 'On Mission for the Church Alive!'
  • Late 2018 — Holy Child, St. Barbara, and St. Mary form an administrative grouping under Fr. Dennis Yurochko

Faith Formation & Religious Education

Corpus Christi Parish runs a family-centered catechetical program for its school-age children. The parish no longer offers traditional in-person or homeschool faith formation; instead, families participate together in Whole Family Catechesis (WFC), which holds eight mandatory Sunday-morning sessions per year at the Holy Child Religious Education Building, with parallel tracks on the 1st (RED), 2nd (GREEN), and 3rd (BLUE PM) Sundays of the month.

  • Whole Family Catechesis (WFC): 8 monthly Sunday sessions, 9:00–10:30 AM, at Holy Child Religious Education Building
  • Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS): Level 1 (ages 3–K) and Level 2 (Grades 1–3), Montessori-style atrium
  • Vacation Bible School (VBS): late June, hosted at Holy Child gym and church
  • Contact: Elizabeth 'Liz' Hand, Director of Faith Formation — [email protected], 412-221-5213 ext. 4220

Catholic Schools

Corpus Christi Parish does not operate its own parish elementary school but actively supports the Diocese of Pittsburgh Catholic school system and refers its school-age children to local Catholic elementary and secondary schools in the South Hills. Families whose children attend a Catholic school are asked to receive their sacraments through the home parish.

  • Elementary partner schools (South Regional Catholic Elementary Schools): Archangel Gabriel, Ave Maria Academy, John F. Kennedy, Madonna Catholic, Mother of Mercy Academy, St. Louise de Marillac, Guardian Angel Academy, South Hills Academy (private)
  • Local Catholic high schools: Bishop Canevin, Seton LaSalle, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (private), Central Catholic, Oakland Catholic
  • Sacrament coordination: Liz Hand, [email protected]

St. Vincent de Paul Conference

The Corpus Christi Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is the parish's principal outreach to neighbors in need. Ten active Vincentians and ten associate members serve local families through home visits, direct financial assistance (rent, mortgage, utilities, car repairs), and food and gas gift cards. In its most recent fiscal year the Conference provided nearly $53,000 in direct aid to Friends and Families in Need.

  • Assistance hotline: (412) 564-3191
  • Monthly meetings: 2nd and 4th Wednesday, 6:30 PM, Holy Child rectory conference room
  • Model: person-to-person home visits (Vincentians meet neighbors where they live)
  • Council of Pittsburgh — part of the regional SVdP Council serving Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Greene, Lawrence, and Washington counties

Sacraments

Sacramental preparation is coordinated through the parish office and the Faith Formation Office. Baptisms, First Communion, Confirmation, marriages, and Anointing of the Sick are all celebrated through the parish, with adult initiation handled through OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) and marriage preparation through the parish's Marriage & Family Ministry.

  • Baptism — arranged through the parish office
  • First Communion & Confirmation — through Whole Family Catechesis, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, or local Catholic schools
  • Marriage — preparation via the Director of Marriage & Family Ministry
  • OCIA — adult initiation (formerly RCIA)
