Guardian Angels is a Roman Catholic parish in the small town of Mead, Colorado, about 35 miles north of Denver. Founded in 1911, it grew from a simple relocated country church into a thriving parish of more than 460 families, now part of the Archdiocese of Denver. Daily Mass, generous confession and adoration schedules, an active Knights of Columbus council, and a robust children's and youth faith formation program mark the parish's life. The current pastor, Rev. Ronald Cattany (Father Ron), entered the seminary at age 55 and continues a 100-plus-year tradition of faithful Catholic witness on the northern Colorado plains.

Parish History
Guardian Angels Catholic Church was founded in 1911 when 25 Catholic families in the newly established town of Mead bought and relocated the old Mt. Zion United Brethren Church one mile up County Road 7 from Highway 66. The first Mass was celebrated on January 1, 1911. Originally a mission of St. John the Baptist in Longmont served by Father Bernard Hamburger, the parish later came under the care of the Longmont Benedictines (until 1945) and then became a mission of St. Theresa's in Frederick. The original carpenter Gothic building was doubled in size in 1929, a parish hall was added in 1964, and the parish marked its Centennial in 2011. A new brick church was completed in 2017, and a Rosary Walk and Mary Grotto were added to the grounds in 2022.

The parish is led by Pastor Rev. Ronald Cattany, KHS, a later-life vocation who entered the seminary at age 55, and is assisted by two deacons and a committed lay staff. The team includes a Business Manager, Director of Facilities, Sacraments Coordinator, Music Director, Children's Religious Education Coordinator, and Faith Formation Outreach coordinator, among others.

Faith Formation & Religious Education
Faith formation at Guardian Angels spans the whole household — from kindergarten through high school, plus adult and family opportunities. Children (K–5) meet on Wednesday evenings September through April. Middle school and high school youth groups meet regularly, and the parish hosts Totus Tuus each summer and sends teens to the Steubenville of the Rockies conference. Adults have OCIA, men's and women's Bible studies, and faith outreach programs.

Adult Faith Formation & OCIA
The parish offers the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) for anyone interested in becoming Catholic or deepening their faith, led by Deacon Tim McCann. Adult Bible study is currently on hiatus. Men's and Women's Bible studies meet weekly, and the parish encourages faith outreach to those seeking spiritual guidance.

Sacraments
All seven Catholic sacraments are celebrated at Guardian Angels. The parish follows the Restored Order of the Sacraments of Initiation implemented by Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila for the Archdiocese of Denver: children receive Reconciliation in 2nd grade and Confirmation and First Eucharist in 3rd grade. Marriage preparation uses the FOCCUS program, guided personally by Father Ron, and OCIA prepares adults for full initiation at Easter.

Beyond formation, Guardian Angels parishioners serve through long-standing Catholic organizations and a vibrant music and liturgical life. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the Knights of Columbus are especially active in supporting those in need, and the parish hosts a wide range of fellowship and service opportunities for men, women, and youth.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Following the example of their patron saint, the parish's St. Vincent de Paul conference offers tangible assistance and spiritual support to neighbors in need. Members raise funds, make home visits, and help with rent, utilities, phone bills, car repairs, and more. Monetary donations are the biggest need — the conference reports paying out over $8,000 in rental aid in a recent six-month period.

Knights of Columbus Council #15857
Our Lady of the Angels Council #15857 was officially formed on December 10, 2013 by 43 men, including then-pastor Fr. Alan Hartway, CPPS. The council engages in fundraisers, blood drives, food distributions, defense of the sanctity of life, and promotion of religious liberty. In 2023, the council was recognized at the Colorado State Convention as the top-performing council in the state in the 50–99 member category.

The parish campus includes the original 1911 carpenter Gothic country church (now undergoing repair and restoration), the 1964 parish hall now called the Catechetical Center (CC Center), a new brick church completed in 2017, and the Rosary Walk and Mary Grotto added in 2022. Bakhita Hall and St. Michael Community Hall are used for meetings, formation classes, and parish events.
