Guardian Angel Catholic Church is a historic Roman Catholic parish in the small rural community of Wallis, Texas (Austin County), part of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Founded in 1892 by Czech immigrant families from Fayette County, it is one of the older Czech Catholic congregations in Texas and worships in a striking wood-frame Gothic Revival church built in 1913 that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History of Guardian Angel Catholic Church
Organized in 1892 by Czech families from Fayette County, Guardian Angel began with services in the Krasna School building on land donated by Francis V. Smid. The first sanctuary was built in 1899 near the Wallis railroad stop, named 'Guardian Angel' at its first Easter Sunday services, destroyed in the great 1900 storm, and rebuilt in 1904. The present Gothic Revival church was dedicated in 1913, with the parish school opening in 1914. By 1933 the school had 170 students and the parish numbered about 300 families. The church is documented as a National Historic Church and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Architecture and Historic Sanctuary
The 1913 Guardian Angel church is a wood-frame Gothic Revival building on a basilica plan, with a tall central bell tower, decorative buttresses, paired lancet windows, and a polygonal apse. Its celebrated interior features a beaded-board ceiling divided into quadrants painted with white stars, diamond panels with angels holding Czech-language banners, a chalice-with-wheat-and-grapevines spandrel above the apse, and Alpha and Omega flanking the altar. The ceiling angels and stars are believed to be original; the pale-green and metallic-gold palette was repainted in the early 1960s by two German painters.

Faith Formation and Religious Education
The parish runs a Children Faith Formation program for students from Pre-K through 8th grade, with registration forms available on the website, in the church narthex, or at the parish office. Older students continue through the Confirmation I & II program, and all high-school students (Grades 9–12) are required to participate in the Life Teen Program. A baptismal certificate is required for Confirmation registration if the child was not baptized at Guardian Angel.

Liturgical Music Ministry
The Liturgical Music Ministry leads the community in song and praise through the Adult Choir, the Life Teen Choir, the Children's Choir, and cantors and instrumentalists. Parishioners are encouraged to share their musical gifts — whether singing, playing an instrument, or cantoring — as part of the parish's worship life.

Sacraments
Guardian Angel prepares parishioners for and celebrates the seven Catholic sacraments. Families register for Baptism and sacramental preparation through the parish office; children receive First Reconciliation and First Communion through Faith Formation; teens prepare for Confirmation in the two-year program; couples contact the office for Matrimony; the sick may request Anointing of the Sick; and Reconciliation is heard during the Friday Holy Hour, before Saturday Mass, or by appointment.
