History of the Parish
The mission's roots go back to 1958, according to GCatholic. In 1974, Bishop Joseph Hodges of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston formally established Good Shepherd Mission in Glenville as a parish, naming Rev. Michael Rooney, SMA, as its first pastor. Through the decades it has remained a small mission-style community twinned with St. Boniface Parish in Camden. The mission took on additional chaplaincy responsibilities when Father Joseph Kutty K. Sebastian was assigned in 2024 to also serve Glenville State College and the Federal Correctional Institution in Gilmer County.
