About Good Shepherd Mission
Good Shepherd Mission is a small Roman Catholic mission chapel serving the Whetstone/Huachuca City area of Cochise County, Arizona. Founded in 1958 with its parent parish St. Andrew the Apostle in Sierra Vista, the mission was created to bring the Sacraments closer to rural Catholics who lived too far to drive to Sierra Vista every week. The present chapel on Good Shepherd Way was dedicated in 1992 and continues to serve as a welcoming worship site for the local community.
History & Founding
The mission was founded in 1958 alongside St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Sierra Vista, both established to serve the growing population drawn to the Fort Huachuca area. As the Catholic faithful spread into the surrounding communities of Whetstone and Huachuca City, Good Shepherd was created as a mission outpost. The current chapel building was dedicated in 1992 and remains the focal point for weekly worship.

Pastoral Leadership & Supervising Parish
Because Good Shepherd is a mission (not a standalone parish), its sacramental life is supervised by St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Sierra Vista, about 10 miles south. Monsignor Gregory (Greg) Adolf serves as pastor of St. Andrew's and, by extension, of Good Shepherd Mission. He is a former Lutheran pastor who converted to Catholicism and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Tucson in 1991. He is a member of the Kino Heritage Society and is active in promoting the canonization cause of Jesuit missionary Father Eusebio Kino (1645–1711), who once evangelized the region.
