About Divine Mercy Parish · Oakland, California
Divine Mercy Parish is a Roman Catholic parish in Oakland, California, formed by the merger of two historic East Oakland churches — St. Paschal Baylon (3700 Dorisa Ave.) and St. Lawrence O'Toole (3725 High St.) — under the leadership of Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ of the Diocese of Oakland. The parish worships in three languages — English, Spanish, and Vietnamese — reflecting the diverse Maxwell Park and Seminary neighborhood it serves in the 94619 zip code. Its mission statement is direct: 'Jesus called us to demonstrate that the Mercy of God is REAL in Oakland, California.' Father Jayson Landeza serves as Pastor, with Father Joseph Phan in residence, supported by a small staff and dozens of lay-led ministries ranging from OCIA and sacramental faith formation to St. Vincent de Paul and the Knights of Columbus.

Why belong here
Divine Mercy Parish is one of the few Oakland parishes where a single weekend schedule gives you Mass in English, Vietnamese, and Spanish across two historic church buildings. It is a multilingual, working-class East Oakland community served by Father Jayson Landeza and Father Joseph Phan, with an unusually deep bench of lay-led ministries — OCIA, sacramental faith formation, youth ministry, the Fellowship of Catholic Christian Women (and its Spanish counterpart FCCM), Cursillo, St. Vincent de Paul, the Knights of Columbus, a Social Justice Committee, and a robust music program. Confession is offered two evenings a week, Wednesday Adoration is held at St. Lawrence, and a monthly Anointing Mass is celebrated on the first Saturday at St. Paschal Baylon — making it a real home for families, immigrants, and anyone seeking the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy in concrete form.

About Divine Mercy Parish
Divine Mercy Parish was created when Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ of the Diocese of Oakland merged the two neighboring East Oakland parishes of St. Paschal Baylon and St. Lawrence O'Toole. Rather than closing one church, the bishop kept both buildings active so that the parish could serve its trilingual community — English, Spanish, and Vietnamese — across two campuses. The parish office is housed at the St. Lawrence O'Toole campus on High Street.
