About Divine Mercy Mission (Divina Misericordia)

Divina Misericordia is a Spanish-language Catholic mission of the Archdiocese of Atlanta serving Brookhaven and the broader Hispanic community of the Buford Highway corridor. It was formally established in 2022 at 3542 Clairmont Road NE, drawing on more than three decades of Hispanic ministry that began at Christ the King in 1992. The mission describes itself as 'a vibrant, evangelizing community that celebrates its faith with great joy and brotherhood.'

Nuestra Historia – The Story of the Community

The mission's roots go back to 1992, when the first Spanish-language Mass was offered at the Christ the King Mission on Lindbergh Drive with Father Cristancho. Mass sites multiplied through 2000 (Central Móvil Village, Father Fabio Sotelo) and 2001 (Mableton, Father Avendaño), while prayer groups, small faith communities, Guadalupana celebrations, English classes, RCIA, Life Teen, St. Vincent de Paul aid, and Boy and Girl Scout troops all grew around them. In 2022 the community became its own parish mission in Brookhaven, and in February 2024 it welcomed Cardinal Christophe Pierre for a Spanish-language synodality talk organized by Emory's Aquinas Center.

Sacraments (Sacramentos)

The mission prepares and celebrates the full range of Catholic sacraments in Spanish, including those particular to Hispanic Catholic tradition such as Quinceañeras and funeral liturgies. Information and registration for each sacrament is coordinated through the parish office.

Educación Religiosa / Catequesis

Religious Education is a central ministry of Divina Misericordia. The parish runs Saturday catechetical tracks for children and adolescents in Spanish (and English where indicated), with a two-year minimum of formation before First Communion and/or Confirmation, and admission beginning at age 8.

Ministerios y Grupos (Ministries and Groups)

Beyond the liturgical life, the mission supports prayer groups and parish ministries where members live out the faith through service, formation and community life. Volunteer recruitment ('¿Le interesa ser voluntario?') and the VIRTUS Safe Environment program are central to parish operations.

Devotions, Events and Cultural Celebrations

The mission maintains the popular Hispanic Catholic devotional calendar in addition to the regular schedule, including the novena-style preparation for the Fiesta of Our Lady of Guadalupe (46 rosaries), Las Posadas before Christmas, the children's pastorela, and the Via Crucis on Good Friday.
