About Corpus Christi · Pooler, Georgia

Corpus Christi Catholic Mission is a Roman Catholic mission parish in Pooler, Georgia, part of the Diocese of Savannah. Founded in 2015 and canonically created on June 15, 2016, by Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM, Conv., the community grew out of local Catholics who had been gathering for Mass at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church for over a year. It is administered as a mission of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Port Wentworth, sharing its pastor, Very Reverend Pablo Migone, who also serves as Vicar for Mission Advancement for the diocese. The parish worships in a 450-seat, $4.2 million facility at 1745 Benton Blvd., which was dedicated on December 23, 2018, after a Capital Campaign that raised over one million dollars and groundbreaking in October 2017.

Why belong here

Corpus Christi offers the full rhythm of Catholic life in a young, growing community just west of Savannah: six Masses a week including a Saturday Vigil and two Sunday morning liturgies, weekday confession after the noon Mass, and a warm welcome to travelers near the Savannah airport and I-95. The parish runs year-round OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) sessions for those discerning becoming Catholic, a thriving youth ministry known as PACT (Pooler Area Catholic Teens), and sacramental preparation through Father Pablo and Mrs. Lori Williams. Its 'Anchored in Christ' capital campaign is expanding the parking lot, retiring construction debt, and supporting the diocesan Harvest of Hope Appeal — clear signs of a parish on the move.

Parish History

Corpus Christi was founded as the 'Pooler Catholic Community' on May 2, 2015, by the Rev. Thomas J. Murphy, with the first Mass held in rented space at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church. After more than a year of gathering there, Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM, Conv., canonically created the parish on June 15, 2016. A Capital Campaign raised over one million dollars, groundbreaking took place in October 2017, and Bishop Hartmayer dedicated the finished church on December 23, 2018, under Fathers Murphy and Fonseca. Today the community continues to grow under Father Pablo Migone, with the parish describing its mission as building 'the Body of Christ one person at a time through the living of the Eucharist and the sharing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.'

The parish also invites the faithful to grow in faith through frequent Confession, weekday Mass, daily Scripture reading with the daily Mass readings, an Examination of Conscience, and retreats at Catholic retreat centers in Georgia such as Holy Spirit Monastery in Conyers and Ignatius House in North Atlanta.

In response to growth, the parish has launched the 'Anchored in Christ' $1.8 million Capital Campaign, which will expand the parking lot, reduce construction debt, and contribute to the diocesan Harvest of Hope Campaign.
