Corpus Christi Parish, also known as Mooney Creek–Corpus Christi, is a historic rural Catholic community south of Atchison, Kansas. Founded in 1857, it serves faithful in the rolling countryside of Jefferson County as part of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. Today it is linked in a cluster with St. Joseph in Nortonville and St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception in Valley Falls, sharing clergy and resources while maintaining its own identity and weekend Mass schedule.

History

Corpus Christi at Mooney Creek dates to 1857, rooted in the German-Catholic settlement of rural Jefferson County. It later gave rise to St. Joseph Parish in Nortonville in 1892. The parish cemetery and the long-standing Mooney Creek Picnic remain touchstones of local Catholic life.
